La tête en friche!

The film tells the touching story of an adult that can barely read

 played by Gérard Depardieu and an elderly lady from a retirement home

 played by Gisèle Casadesus. Her love of words

and books drives his desire to finally learn to "travel

with words". It is a refreshing film with a joyful,

 hopeful, moving story which shows, I think France

 and French culture. I am not a fan of Gérard Depardieu

but in the film he is subtle and makes Germain

(the name of his character) truly believable as

the "the village idiot" as we say in French!

Gisèle Casadesus is poignant in her role as Margueritte

with two Ts. "She brings an energy to the screen that belies

her age" from Paris Update.This movie also shows what

I have been reflecting on in the  past few weeks: telling a story as

a way of teaching a new language. Teaching is about telling

stories and  Germain is the perfect example of this. He was never

 good at school but when an old woman starts to tell

 him stories, he shows that he is not so dumb afterall.

Germain leidt een rustig leventje samen met zijn vrienden

uit het café en zijn vriendin Annette. De 45-jarige Fransman is

nagenoeg analfabeet en in zijn vrije tijd telt hij duiven in het park.

Met zijn moeder heeft hij een moeilijke relatie.

Zijn vader heeft hij nooit gekend.

Op een dag ontmoet hij Margueritte, een gepensioneerde

 belezen dame, die veel van de wereld heeft gezien. Ze woont alleen

in een bejaardentehuis en verblijft ook graag in het park

 om duiven te tellen. Tussen Germain en Margueritte groeit

een warme vriendschap die het leven van Germain

Royal Delft - Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles

Aardewerkfabriek 'De Porceleyne Fles' is in 1653 opgericht.

Nog steeds wordt het aardewerk volledig met

de hand beschilderd volgens eeuwenoude tradities. 

Pottery 'The Royal Delft' was founded in 1653.

Still, the pottery is entirely painted by hand

using centuries-old traditions.
