The Unlikely Lavender Queen! Jeannie Ralston

In 1990, Jeannie Ralston was a successful magazine writer and bona fide city girl, the type of woman who
couldn't imagine living on soil not shaded by skyscrapers. By 1994, she had called off an engagement, married Robb, a National Geographic photographer, and was living in Blanco Texas, population 1600.

The Unlikely Lavender Queen is the intimate story of a woman who gives up a lot for the man she loves – her beloved blue state, bagels and all-night bodegas—only to have to wonder: Was it too much? Ralston offers a lively chronicle of her life as a wife, new mother and an urban settler in rural Texas. As she labors to convert a dilapidated barn into a livable home, deal with scorpions and unbearably hot summers, raise two young children while Robb is frequently away on assignment, she realizes her ultimate struggle is to reconcile her life plans and goals with her husband’s without coming out the proverbial loser. And just when it seems like she might be losing that fight—and herself— a little purple bloom changes her life.

For centuries lavender has been a mystical herb, so valuable to ancient Romansthat a bushel would cost nearly a month’s wages. But when Robb returns from a trip to Provence with a plan for growing lavender on their land, Ralston is not convinced—in fact the last thing she needed or wanted was to take up farming on top of everything else. Then, much to her surprise, she slowly but surely falls in love with lavender, and in the course of growing and selling blooms, hosting the public at the farm, and creating lavender products, she discovers a new side of herself. A few short years later, Ralston had built Hill Country Lavender, a thriving commercial enterprise that transforms both her little corner of Texas and her life. (bron: bookbrowse.com)

Book 'Vincent in Den Haag' - Vincent Van Gogh!

Theun de Vries's novel deals with the period of Vincent van Gogh spent in The Hague. Embittered by a failed love affair, he struggled to turn to painting. Poor, lonely and rejected, he withdraws the fate of Sien, which he regards as a pariah who needs help. The only one who supports him is his brother Theo, but he rejects Vincent's relationship with Sien. The author has used many letters from Vincent and Theo as a guide for his novel. Well written and fascinating book. It gives a better insight into an important phase in the life of the Vincent van Gogh.

Marlena de Blasi. Regional Foods of Southern Italy!

Another good book of Marlena de Blasi.

Regional Foods of Southern Italy distills the essence of the region's traditional foods in a beautifully wrought
amalgam of narrative and recipe.Regional Foods of Southern Italy takes us from Rome, where we eat a sumptuous Christmas Eve fish supper, through the harsh magnificence of Abruzzi's mountains to Naples, where we find the one true pizza and make a slight detour for the mythical orange tart of Capri. Our journey continues down the Amalfi coast through the ancient reaches of Puglia, where we find Pasta in Black, the ultimate comfort food, pause in little-known Basilicata for Honeyed Wild Rabbit braised with Chestnuts, and jolt our palates with Calabrian ricotta forte before ending up in Sicily and Sardinia. Here are more than 150 authentic recipes in a beautiful two-color cookbook that is " about simplicity and innocence . . . and about
the stories, inextricably woven into and wedded to the food.

La rue du chat qui pêche! Paris

La Rue du Chat-qui-Pêche is considered the narrowest street in Paris.
It is only 1.80m wide for the whole of its 29m length.
It is located in the 5th arrondissement, on the Rive Gauche of the Seine,
and runs from Quai Saint-Michel to Rue de la Huchette.

I love reading the books of Marlena de Blasi.

Thousand days in Venice
